The Esther L. Kauffman Academic Residential Center is a multi-use structure with both classroom and residential space. The extreme difference in function of these environments projects a unique problem into the design phase. The superior acoustical and fire resistive characteristics of Flexicore made it a wise material selection.
After analysis of several structual systems, the 74,000 sq. ft. of 8" Flexicore deck and roof slabs were selected. The use of Flexicore accelerated construction by providing a working deck that could be installed in Nebraska's harsh winter weather. The deck was used immediately by mechanical, electrical and other trades to proceed with their work without any delays.
